Pupil Support
At ACS we have a number of different interventions on offer from different teams of staff.
The Literacy and Numeracy Learning Guides assess all pupils on entry to the school for Reading, Spelling and Numeracy ages. If they need extra help they will be offered an appropriate intervention such as Cumbrian Reading Intervention, Read Write inc., Catch Up etc.
The Core Learning Guides support groups of pupils in lessons where the teacher has identified there is a need. One of our CLGs has responsibility for ensuring that our EAL pupils have the support they need to develop socially and academically within the school environment. Another of the CLGs is coordinating the Student Assistance Programme. This is a specialist intervention that aims to re-engage pupils with their learning.
The Individual Learning Guides help support individual pupils who have been identified (via Statement of SEN or through the local Additional Learning Needs panel) to need one to one support to enable them to access the curriculum.
We also have two Youth Workers who support pupils via our Learning House provision.
Pastoral Support Assistants are also another level of support for our more vulnerable pupils. Pupils know that they can go to these staff when they feel they need some extra emotional support. They are also a first point of contact for parents.
