Rules & Standards

Uniform

Aberdare Community School has a uniform for the following reasons:

  • So that all students develop a sense of identity in school and can be proud of their appearance.
  • So that all students wear clothing that is appropriate to the function in school and individuals will not ‘stand out’ for any reason.
  • So that parents/carers can dress their children economically, particularly during the years of speedy growth.

Girls’ Uniform

School Blazer

Black blazer with school badge, only available in school. (Compulsory All Year.)

Shirt

White shirt (NOT polo shirt.)

Tie

KS3/KS4 School tie, only available from the school.

Jumper

Black V-neck with school badge, only available from the school. (Compulsory October half term to Easter.)

Skirt

Straight black, knee length.

Smart black trousers no canvas material.

Trousers

Socks

Black socks to be worn with trousers. (During the summer months only, black knee length socks can be worn with skirts.)

Tights

Black tights at least 40 denier to be worn with skirts. (Tights can be worn at all times during the school year.)

Shoes

Black shoes, no boots or daps.

Outer coat

Dark in colour, no hoodies or sweatshirts.

P.E. Kit

Black and gold T-shirt with the school badge.

Black and gold skirt.

Black and gold hoody.

Black long socks with school logo.

Black dance leggings.

Training shoes.

Towel and black swimsuit.

Code of Conduct

  • Attend school regularly and arrive to school and lessons on time.
  • Show consideration, courtesy and respect at all times to your teachers, your peers and visitors to school.
  • Show respect for your environment, keep the school clean and tidy so that it can be a welcoming place of which we can be proud.
  • Walk about the school carefully and quietly, keeping to the left.
  • Line up outside the classroom in an orderly fashion.
  • Come to every lesson equipped to work i.e. bring pen, pencil, ruler, rubber, books and planner.
  • Always try to understand other people’s point of view.
  • Put your hand up to answer or ask questions, do not shout out.
  • Be polite and helpful to others, respect each other’s rights.
  • Take responsibility for your own words and actions.
  • Always work hard and to the best of your ability, work sensibly and do not distract others.

Policies

Policy on the Wearing of Jewellery

  1. Pupils are allowed one pair of plain studs worn in the lobe of the ear. No other piercings are permitted.
  2. Pupils are not permitted to wear stretchers or ‘javelin’ style earings.
  3. Due to health and safety reasons pupils are not allowed to wear bracelets, necklaces or rings of any description (accept for religious reasons)
  4. Pupils are allowed to wear a wrist watch.

Jewellery worn which is not permitted will be confiscated.

Policy on the Wearing of Makeup

  1. Pupils are not allowed to wear makeup to school.
  2. Pupils are not allowed to wear nail varnish to school.

Pupils wearing makeup and/or nail varnish will be asked to remove it.

Policy on the use of Mobile Phones, iPods etc.

  1. The school does not allow the use of these items in school because, not only are they expensive and can easily get broken or lost, but they can and are used inappropriately by some pupils for bullying. Therefore the use of these items is treated as a serious offence.
  2. The only exception, when mobile phones are permitted, is when they are used to enhance teaching and learning under the direct supervision of the class teacher.

Mobile phones and/or music players will be confiscated and only returned to a parent or guardian.
