Year 12 Mock Interviews

Dear Parents/Carers,

On Tuesday July 9th 2019 all pupils in Year 12 are going to be undertaking a mock interview with representatives from RCT Employment Education and Training Team & Coleg Y Cymoedd, Aberdare. This is part of their Careers and World of Work Education in Sixth Form.

They will be out of school for about ½ an hour attending their interview and will be given an appointment time between 9:00 am and 1:25 pm. Their interview will take place at Coleg Y Cymoedd, Aberdare Campus.

Pupils will have to make their own, unsupervised, way to the college on foot from school. They will not be supervised whilst travelling between school and college. They should use the underpass between the Ynys site and Cwmbach Road, using the appropriate safe crossing points to reach the college site at the bottom of Abernant Road. A member of staff will be based in the college throughout the day to ensure the smooth running of the interviews.

Ideally, this is a compulsory event as part of your child’s career related education and can form a valid preparation for higher education and future employment prospects. Thorough and personalised feedback will be given based upon the interview undertaken.

I would be grateful if you would complete the consent form sent home with your child and return it to school with your son/daughter as soon as possible for him/her to attend this event.

As it is a formal interview occasion, then we would ask that your son/daughter dress appropriately for a formal interview. This should mean dressing professionally for a work-based setting. Formal wear rather than jeans or casual wear should be worn to the interview.

Correct Uniform Policy

Dear Parent/Carer,                                                                       

In our determination to raise standards, it is essential that the school continues to develop the culture of high expectations and instil a consistent sense of pride amongst all learners. I am writing to inform you that we are relaunching our school uniform policy, which will come into force in September 2019. Please find a notification on uniform attached and note that school black trousers should be a traditional tailored style, which is formal, smart and not tight fitting. The bottom of the trousers should sit on the shoe and not cling to the leg. Lycra, skinny type trousers, leggings are not acceptable and should not be worn to school. Please do not purchase skinny versions of such items even if they say on the label that they are school trousers, as these will not be acceptable in school. Skirts MUST be straight, black and knee length. Any other length of skirt will not be acceptable. Pupils are not permitted to wear outside coats/hoodies inside the school building, blazers should be worn at all times.

We will continue to be vigilant in ensuring our learners wear their uniform correctly to engender a feeling of community and sense of belonging.

Pupils will be informed this week in assemblies of an end of term focus that we are having on school uniform. This will begin on Wednesday July 3rd 2019.

Correct Trouser and Skirt Policy

End of Term Uniform Focus

From Wednesday July 3rd 2019, we are having a focus on the following areas of our school uniform.

Blazers to be worn at all times

No outdoor coats/hoodies to be worn in the school building

No facial piercings

Coats and hoodies being worn inside the building will be confiscated and pupils will be asked to remove any facial piercings.

Year 9 Lyra and hydra

7 Andromeda and 7 hydra had no unauthorised absence which every form should be aiming for - well done

Year 11 Prom Reminder

Please note that tonight there will be a photographer and a photo booth available. Photos taken will be available to purchase at a small cost on the night, so bring money if needed.

For the attention of learners attending the History trip to Poland 2nd-5th July 2019:

Travel documents required:

• Passport (to be handed to Mr. Keeble on the bus)

• EHIC card (to be handed to Miss Horler on the bus)

Timings:

• Arrive at ACS between 2:15 and 2:30 for a prompt departure at 2:45

• Outgoing flight from Gatwick at 9:25 am on Tuesday 2nd July

• Return flight from Krakow at 14:55 and return to ACS by 20:00 (traffic depending)

Essential items to take:

• All liquids must be 100ml and under (otherwise they will have to be left at the airport)

• Suncream (current weather forecasts say mid to high 20s)

• European plug adapter (two-pronged plug)

• Mobile phone and home contact number (phones are covered under the "Go Roam" agreement in Europe so they can be used as in the UK)

• Any medication being taken must be clearly labelled, with the required dosage and number of times taken, and given to Mr. Keeble upon arrival at ACS

Clothing:

• Comfortable pair of walking shoes (i.e. trainers)

• Raincoat (should the weather take a turn for the worse)

• Sensible clothing (there is a 7kg limit on cabin luggage)

Excursions:

• All learners will be placed in groups of between 8-10 and will be assigned to one of the three members of staff attending the trip

• Staff will remain at a designated meeting point during free time and all learners will be given the school mobile phone number in case they need to contact staff)
