YEPS Spring Term 2020
Year 11 English Oracy Task 2
Dear Parent,
As part of their qualification in GCSE English Language, your child is currently preparing for Unit 1 Task 2 (Responding and Interacting). This unit in total is worth 20% of their final grade.
Pupils will be expected to engage in a group discussion based on WJEC stimulus materials released in school this week. Pupils have only one week to research the topic, prepare their ideas and discuss their views and opinions in their groups. Discussions should last between 7 and 10 minutes in duration. Pupils in Year 11 are currently working through the scheme of learning ‘Animals and Food’ in school to help them develop their skills.
Please help your child to further prepare for their discussion by reading and/or watching videos about the topic they are studying and discussing your opinions together. Further advice and guidance will be given to pupils by their class teacher. You may also find the following link useful, which contains relevant advice and guidance on how to perform well in group discussions:

Please note that it is a requirement of the examination board that these assessments are recorded by audio or video. No recording will mean that no mark is awarded. It is therefore vitally important that your child is properly prepared, confident and perform to their full potential.
The remainder of the qualification (80%) will be based on their performance in two external examination units taken in the summer of 2020.
It is our aim that every single pupil in YGACS achieves their full potential in English.
100% attendance, hard work in every lesson, revision and focussed exam practice are all key to your child’s success.
Should you have any further questions then please contact us.
Yours faithfully,
J. Marrable
Leader of Learning of English
