Dear Parents/Carers,
On Thursday 21st March 2019 from 3:15 pm to 6:00 pm the school is holding an options/parents evening for Year 8 pupils.
As I mentioned in my previous letter, year 8 pupils will embark on a three year Key Stage Four programme of study from September of Year 9. This means they choose their option subjects in the spring term of Year 8.
Your child has already had a series of assemblies recently explaining about the different subjects on offer and from these they were asked to pick their top four subjects that they would like to study next year. This information was then used to put the option blocks together giving us the best fit of subjects.
The next stage of the process is for them to pick their options from the option blocks, which will be distributed on Thursday 21st March during the options/parents evening. There will be four option blocks and they will need to choose one subject from each; this will give them a total of four subjects.
This is a very important time for your son/daughter and in order for them to make the right choices and to help parents give the correct advice to their children, it is really important that you are able to attend the evening.
Senior teachers will also be available throughout the evening should you need to speak to one of us to gain further information.
The evening will start with an opening address, which will give information about subject options available to pupils. There will be two opportunities to attend the opening address; 3.15pm and 4.30pm.
You will then have the opportunity to visit subject departments to discuss with teachers details of the GCSE and BTEC courses offered. Staff will be based in areas and rooms within the school. Details will be available in reception when you sign in for the evening.
All pupils in Year 8 are invited to attend with their parents/carers so that they can find out as much information as possible in order to make an informed choice of what they want to do from next September. The evening is appointment based, but is meant to be informal and will give pupils an opportunity to think about their future options. It will also give you an opportunity to find out about courses available.
Thank you for your time in this matter. I look forward to seeing you on Thursday 21st March.
Yours sincerely,
Mrs. M. Pearce
Deputy Head-teacher
